Single-use Plastics in Germany - DIVID Registration

Do you sell your products in single-use plastic packaging? Since 2025 there is a requirement for sellers to register with the German Environment Ministry, file reports and pay environmental fees for single-use plastic packaging introduced to the German the market.

Amazon is responsible for ensuring that sellers comply, so it won't let you sell unless you provide a valid DIVID registration number.

You may already be familiar with LUCID - that's the general packaging reporting requirement that applies to all sellers. DIVID is a requirement on top of LUCID that only applies to single-use plastic products in the categories listed below.

Unlike LUCID, an authorized representative established in Germany is required for companies from outside Germany. Minefield Navigator complies with German requirements and can arrange a DIVID registration for you, act as your representative, and file all the required reports automatically.

DIVID Product Categories

The following product categories all fall under DIVID. Usually, Amazon will flag your product automatically if it suspects it falls under the regulation.

1. Food containers, i.e. receptacles such as boxes, with or without a cover, used to contain food which:

• is intended for immediate consumption, either on-the-spot or take-away,
• is typically consumed from the receptacle, and
• is ready to be consumed without any further preparation such as cooking, boiling or heating
• Examples: beverage containers, beverage cups, plates, and packets and foil packaging, such as wrappers, containing food are not food containers for these purposes;

2. Packets and foil packaging, such as wrappers, containing food, which

• is intended for immediate consumption from the packet or wrapper,
• without any further preparation;

3. Beverage containers with a capacity of up to three litres, i.e. receptacles used to contain liquid, such as beverage bottles and composite beverage packaging on which a deposit is or is not charged, including their caps and lids; glass or metal beverage containers with plastic caps or lids are not beverage containers for these purposes;

4. Cups for beverages, including their covers and lids;

5. Lightweight plastic carrier bags, i.e. plastic carrier bags, with a wall thickness of less than 50 micrometres, with or without carrying handle, offered to consumers at the point of sale of goods or products;

6. Wet wipes, i.e. pre-wetted personal care and domestic wipes;

7. Balloons; except balloons for industrial or other professional uses and applications that are not distributed to consumers;

8. Tobacco products with filters and filters intended for use in combination with tobacco products

DIVID number format

The number you need to provide has the following format H-XXXXXX-Country code

H - stands for producers from outside Germany XXXXXX stands for a combination of six digits/letters allocated to you Country code: for example, "CZ" for Czechia

Example: H-123ABC-CZ

Amazon validates your number against a public database to make sure your company as well as all associated product categories are registered.
